Food, Nuts

Nuts are an important source of natural healthy fats and starch, but when someone talks about nuts, they usually mean varieties such as hazelnuts, chestnuts and acorns among many others. The definition of culinary nuts is more comprehensive and it includes all the types of seeds that can be eaten and used in different forms.

The extensive definition of culinary nuts includes pistachios, peanuts, macadamia nuts, walnuts, almonds and many other seeds that are consumed raw as well as for adding flavor to many tasty dishes. For centuries, culinary nuts have been considered among the tastiest, most nutritious foods readily available. However, only during modern times the consumption of culinary nuts worldwide has increased tremendously. A great example is that of the well known peanut that was made popular by George Washington Carver. By growing peanuts on soils where cotton used to be king, an entire new industry was established and more people came to enjoy the tasty culinary nuts.

Packed with nutrients, culinary nuts are not only delicious, but they also contain almost anything the body needs to survive; they contain valuable antioxidants, they are a good source of protein, and they have a high content of omega-3 fatty acids. Including culinary nuts in your weekly diet brings an important contribution to your overall health. Revised August 30th, 2015 Submit a Website
