General Information
Much of the food you consume contains different types of fat, some of which is healthier for you and your body than others. It is a common misconception that all fats are bad. However, there are types of fats that are vital to your body and will help foster an overall healthy wellbeing. Dietary fats are found within food and helps provide essential energy to help fuel and support important functions of the body. While dietary fat is good in moderate, an excess of fat can lead to excessive weight gain.

Harmful Forms Of Dietary Fat
  • Saturated Fat - Saturated fat is derived mostly from animal based food sources like full-fat dairy products, red meat, and poultry. The dangers of excessive saturated fat can lead to higher levels of cholesterol, which raises the body’s risk for developing type two Diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Trans Fat - Trans fats naturally occur in small amounts in most foods. The majority of trans fats are created from oils through partial hydrogenation. Similarly to saturated fats, trans fats increase unhealthy levels of cholesterol and increase the risk for developing cardiovascular disease. 
Healthy Forms Of Dietary Fat
  • Monounsaturated Fat - Monounsaturated fat is found in a plethora of oils and foods. Eating foods that are packed full of these monounsaturated fats benefit insulin levels and blood sugar, and improve your body’s cholesterol levels, helping to decrease your risk of contracting heart disease.
  • Polyunsaturated Fat - Polyunsaturated fat is derived from oils and plant-based foods. Consuming foods rich in polyunsaturated fat decreases your risk of type two diabetes and heart disease by improving cholesterol levels.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Beneficial for your heart health by reducing your risk for coronary artery disease, omega-3 fatty acids are primarily found in fish. Omega-3 fatty acids have also been found to help to lower blood pressure and defend irregular heartbeats.
